This is available to all applicants following cancer-related treatment regardless of eligibility status. This means a medical card is NOT required to receive this grant of €770 annually.
A letter from the hospital or prescription/letter from your GP confirming that you are or have received treatment will be required to receive your wig. We will take care of all the paperwork on your behalf.
Alopecia / Hair Loss
If you hold a valid medical card you may be entitled to a free or subsidised wig or topper per calendar year.
A letter or prescription from your GP / consultant confirming your type of hair loss is required to receive your wig/hair piece. I will take care of all the paperwork on your behalf
HSE MEDICAL CARD HOLDERS
If you have an HSE Medical Card you may be eligible for an allowance towards the cost of your wig/topper.
All we need is your valid medical card number along with a prescription from your GP / Consultant or Dermatologist, stating that you require a wig or hair piece due to diagnosed alopecia or for medical reasons or going through cancer treatment. Prescriptions can be given to me directly at the time of your consultation or you or your doctor can send the prescription to me any of these ways:
The PRSI Wig Grant Treatment Benefit Scheme is available to insured workers, the self-employed, and retired people who have the required number of PRSI contributions. Once approved, you can claim up to €500 for your new wig or hair topper.

We can check your PRSI Wig Grant Eligibility within seconds. All we require is your PPS number, date of birth, and your permission signature
Please download the form below and bring them with you when you for you consultation. Please ensure your medical practitioner fills in the type and cause of your Alopecia. We cannot access your grant without these forms filled in correctly
If you do not have enough PRSI contributions you may be able to claim on your dependent spouse/civil partner/cohabitant’s contributions; even after death a widower or surviving civil partner may be able to claim. Please contact us directly if you wish to claim on your spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant’s contributions. We will post or email you the required form for you to fill out before forwarding it to the Department of Social Protection.
